In Memory Of A Friend

My former friend lays on the floor
Among his body lies his memoirs
Pain, failures and all the above
Handwritten in a shaky style
Scared to death for all his days
Scanning through and I cry his tears
Of joy, of sorrow, of happiness, and of loss
Jotting down every detail, of every venture
Meticulous, he was careful to note
Every breath, every swallow
Every gasp, every tear
Every kiss, every denial
I laid down his book in his hands
and laid them across his chest
I closed his eyes and put his life to rest
Such a talent put to waste
Put aside for a different taste
Rather than the excitement of a gig
To the high he got from a cig
Now he's in heaven with the rest
Now he can forever dance
